The fashion industry faces two major challenges: the immense environmental impact of textile production and the prevalence of inhumane working conditions. Most garments are designed for short-term trends, produced with excessive resource consumption, and made largely from synthetic materials.
We believe that every fashion brand is part of this system and therefore carries responsibility. At Dettke, we are committed to contributing to positive change by making our processes transparent and continuously improving them. While we recognize that creating new products can never be truly sustainable, we are committed to reducing our impact as much as possible while creating pieces built to last.
That’s why:
We are Made in Germany. Every garment is produced exclusively in our Bayreuth atelier under fair working conditions and wages.
We work on a made-to-order basis. Instead of mass-producing collections, we only make each piece once it has been ordered. This helps us minimize waste while creating garments in very limited quantities.
We mainly use deadstock fabrics — leftover materials from overproduction and fast-changing trends that would otherwise go to waste.
We work almost exclusively with 100% cotton fabrics, many of which are certified. For select products, we use fabrics with a small amount of elastane when necessary for the design. You can always find detailed fabric compositions and certifications on each product page.
We created Limited Leftovers, which allows us to further reduce our textile waste while creating unique, one-of-a-kind designs.
Our entire packaging, including hang tags, is made exclusively from paper and cotton.
We prioritize local textile suppliers from Germany and work with European suppliers whenever possible.
We are honest about areas where we are not yet perfect: zippers, sewing threads, and embroidery yarns still contain synthetic materials. While we aim for maximum transparency, it is not always possible to trace every step of a fabric’s supply chain.
We continue working every day to make our production and supply chains more transparent and to improve our processes constantly.
You receive high-quality products with a timeless design that are made to be worn for as long as possible. We believe that consuming less but better is worth it.
